| Spring Forward! |
Living in rhythm with the seasons lends itself to the important aspect of observing the natural world, as well as reminding us to reflect on how our inner rhythms are affected by the season.
The following excerpts from the Kripalu Healthy Living Spring e-News 2009, resonate with our thoughts here at Awake and Aware about the spring season.
How can you draw on nature's rhythms, on the arrival of spring, for inspiration, possibility, and renewal? Spring is a powerful time to begin a project, to renew a commitment, to honor a pledge. What do you want for yourself in this new season? What is one goal that you have? In this season of growth, plant a seed of possibility by taking just one simple action toward that goal.
If you want to eat with more awareness, make one delicious and healthy dinner. Do
you long to practice yoga with more consistency? Sign up for a class. If you're looking to exercise with more vigor, start by going for a hearty 20-minute walk. For today, take one step; for today, plant that seed. (by Aruni Nan Futuronsky, Senior Life Coach, an excerpt from Kripalu Healthy Living e-News Spring 2009)
Feel more vital and alive this spring by adding cleansing twists to your practice. Twists can sweep away stagnant winter energy and energize your body by stimulating the circulatory system, cleansing internal organs like the liver, and balancing the nervous system. Standing twists - think triangle, revolved triangle, side angle - will help develop strength and flexibility. Seated twists will release tension from the hips, pelvis, and spine. And reclined twists will produce a relaxing, calming effect. Every time you twist the torso, the abdominal organs are compressed, resulting in a "wringing out" of toxins. When you release the twist, those organs receive a fresh supply of oxygen-rich blood, providing nourishment and healing to the tissues. (by Janna Delgado, Yoga Teacher and Personal Trainer, an excerpt from Kripalu Healthy Living e-News Spring 2009)
